Well, hello there.

I'm Tara. And even when I'm not writing copy, I'm never not being a copywriter.

I can't help but notice words. They call me!

Quirky, unexpected words, ads I wish I'd thought of, head-turning phrases and dust-covered clichés. (I'm looking at you, 'Let's get Christmas all wrapped up.')

That photo is from 2014, and I guarantee Christmas will still be getting all wrapped up this year. Again.

Vogue 'all wrapped up' for Christmas 2014.
Why, Sainsbury's, why?

Me and my sister* can't stand the word 'meal'.

Is it just us?

I put this photo on Facebook, with the caption 'this is so wrong'. She was the first one to like it.

Not everyone understands this.

*I sometimes break the rules of 'proper' writing. On purpose.

Anyway – the serious bit (sort of):

I’ve been a writer in some shape or form for over 20 years. I started out translating EU documents, then shifted into digital copy (and never looked back).

I’ve led copy for major brands like Virgin Media and FitFlop, freelanced for The Writer, and helped clients like Cisco and Barclays explain some pretty complex things in surprisingly simple ways.

UX, SEO, content that actually converts – I’m all over it. Web copy is my spiritual home, but if it’s got words, I can write it. Try me.

A really bad photo of me with silly glasses when I worked as Copy Lead for a big web transformation project at Virgin Media.

A fun fact about me

Around a decade ago, I left my London life behind and moved to the Amazon jungle. I lived in Peru for over a year, and later trained as a shamanic healer. (Didn’t expect that, did you?)

These days ...

I live on the edge of London, spend a lot of time in the west of Ireland and find joy in gardens, kitchens and getting under the skin of whatever a brand’s trying to say.
